Quran learning is important for all Muslims across the world, it is what guides us in life and teaches us how to deal with anything in life.

Understanding Quran is the key to unlocking the secrets of life, for women learning Quran is essential so that no one can oppress them in the name of Islam. plus learning Quran is of great importance for many reasons, one of them being:

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.”

The prophet also said:

“Whoever recites a letter from the book of Lord, he will be credited with the good deed and a good deed gets a tenfold reward?”

How can you enhance your recitation? How to overcome the challenges? That’s what we will discuss today and more, let’s get started.

Why Quran Learning is Important for Muslims: Understanding the Significance?

The prophet peace and blessing be upon him said: “Verily the one who recites the Quran beautifully, smoothly, and precisely he will be in the company of noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty stumbling (or stammering) through its verses, then he will be rewarded twice.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

The Holy Quran lightens our hearts, filling them with understanding and acceptance that life is merely a test. Allah said in the Holy Quran:

“Alif-Lãm-Ra. This is a Book which We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ so that you may lead people out of darkness and into light, by the Will of their Lord, to the Path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy” [Ibrahim, 1]

The Quran is the source of guidance, as Allah said in the Quran:

“Through which Allah guides those who seek His pleasure to the ways of peace, brings them out of darkness and into light by His Will, and guides them to the Straight Path.” [Al-Ma’idah, 16]

Whatever the hardships you are facing in your life the solution will be in the Quran. Also, Quran learning helps erase all anxiety and depression, the verses of the Quran will heal your heart and help you feel better. Sometimes when we are going through hardships and read the Quran, we feel like the verse is talking to us. Like Allah is sending you a message to let you know that everything will be okay.

Allah rewards us with ten rewards for every letter. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Whoever recites a letter of the book of Allah (Quran) will be credited with a good deed “Hasanah” and a good deed is multiplied into ten Hasanat. I do not say that the word: Alif Laam Meem is counted as a word letter. Rather, Alif is a letter, Laam is a letter and Meem is a letter.”

The Holy Quran heals us from all diseases and purifies the heart from what is troubling it. Allah said in the Holy Quran:

“O mankind! There hath come to you an admonition from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts and for those who believe a Guidance and Mercy.” (Quran, 10:57)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “The best of you are the ones who learn the Quran and teach it to others.” (Bukhari)

Those were just a few of the many benefits of Quran learning. We can conclude that for us Muslims it’s essential to learn Quran recitation to guide us and light our hearts.

Effective Techniques for Quran Memorization: Enhancing Your Recitation Skills.

The prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:

“Fasting and the Qur’an will intercede for a person on the Day of Resurrection. Fasting will say, ‘O Lord, I deprived him of food and desires during the day, so let me intercede for him.’ The Qur’an will say, ‘O Lord, I deprived him of his sleep at night, so let me intercede for him.’ Then they will both intercede for him.”

He also said:

“It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: Recite and rise in status, recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status will be at the last verse that you recite.”

It’s essential for us to learn Quran recitation, but how can we do so? Here are some tips and tricks for you:

1. Learn how to recite Quran correctly.

Before you start memorizing you should learn how to recite the Quran with tajweed and without any mistakes, or else you will memorize it wrong. You could do that by listening to your favorite reciter and reading with him from the Mushaf, seeing where you get it wrong, and fixing it.

Another thing you can do is start with Noorani Qaida.

It is a book that teaches you Arabic reading through reading the Quranic verses. The book is made for kids, beginners, and adults to teach them the right pronunciation of the Arabic alphabet and how to spell words and alphabets when they are combined.

The book focuses on teaching you the Arabic language so that you can read the Quran easily. So, this is the first step to take in your learning journey.

From this book, you will learn the alphabet, the right pronunciation of each letter, the rules of pronunciation, short vowels, and long vowels. If you don’t want to learn just from books you can enroll yourself in a Noorani Qaida course that will teach you the basics and guide you throughout the course.

 2. Listen to and Practice Quran Daily.

To learn the tajweed rules better and read with no mistakes you should listen to a reciter and read after him. Pay attention to how he reads, when he raises his voice, and when he lowers it.

Listen to how he pronounces each letter and word, the more you listen the better you get. There are many reciters that you could choose from like Saad El Ghamidi, Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy, and Abdul Basit Abdus Samad.

Make a reading plan, for example, read five verses a day or one page, recite it, and record yourself then compare it with the reciter. Or listen to the reciter and recite with him, listen carefully to how he recites each word and pause as much as you want, and keep your eyes on the verses you read. This method will greatly enhance your Quran recitation.

3. Understand the meaning of what you read.

While reciting Quran you will find many words or verses that you don’t understand, therefore you need to search for its Tafsir (meaning). You could also start by reading the English translation to understand and then read it in Arabic. And if you find anything that you don’t understand don’t hesitate and ask the trusted Quran scholars.

Overcoming Challenges in Quranic Learning: Practical Tips and Strategies.

Quran learning online might be a bit hard especially if you find it hard to stay on track, or if you are following the wrong strategy. The best thing you can do is to make the strategy you are planning to follow in your learning journey. And don’t push yourself, learn in your free time, and don’t force yourself to learn a whole chapter of Juz, take it slowly.

Here are some tips to help you:

1. Enroll yourself in an online course.

At the beginning of learning, you need someone to help you read correctly and correct your mistakes, therefore, it is better to have a Quran tutor.

Allah said in the Holy Quran: “So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation,” [Al-Qiyamah: 18].

This doesn’t mean that you can’t learn on your own, you can but instead of listening to your teacher you can listen to your favorite reciter and repeat after him. And to know whether you did well or not record yourself while reciting Quran and then compare it with the reciter. This way you can see if you recite correctly or did a mistake and then correct it.

2. Learn Tajweed rules.

One important step in the Quran learning journey is learning tajweed. Tajweed rules are your key to perfecting your Quran recitation. It is the rule used to read each letter correctly. The word tajweed itself means beautification, the act of perfecting something.

With tajweed you will learn how to pronounce the words in their right form, as each letter comes out from a part of the mouth, tajweed will help you do so.

The prophet peace and blessing be upon him said:

“Verily the one who recites the Quran beautifully, smoothly, and precisely will be in the company of noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty stumbling (or stammering) through its verses, then he will be rewarded twice.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

3. Take your time.

You are not competing with anyone, learn at your own pace, and don’t push yourself to learn more than you can because you will end up disappointing yourself. Quran learning is a long journey that needs patience, persistence, and the will to keep going.

When you push yourself to learn more than you can you will fail, feel disappointed, and you might even lose hope and decide to stop. In this case, you are losing not winning, but when you know your limitations and act upon them you will be proud of what you accomplished so far.

Don’t compare yourself to others, focus on what you accomplished so far, and how far you went since you started your learning journey. This is how you encourage yourself to keep going, and you will reach your goal.

4. Learn from your mistakes.

Quran learning is a hard task, and you need to know that before you start so that you don’t push yourself or feel disappointed when you take longer than you expected, especially if you are not an Arabic speaker. Be proud of yourself, and of your mistakes, because as humans we learn from our mistakes.

Remind yourself that you are learning Quran for Allah and ask him to help you, guide you, and help you stay on track. Mistakes are part of the Quran learning process, because when we make a mistake and correct it, we will enhance our recitation, and the chances are that you won’t fall into the same mistake again, and even if you did, that’s normal. When you correct one mistake you will correct your recitation significantly. And remember Allah will reward you for trying, and for doing your best to learn what brings you closer to him.

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur’an will be with the honorable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur’an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have a double reward.”

Quran learning is a long journey, you need to be patient, persistent, learn from your mistakes, and be proud of yourself. Don’t force yourself to learn more than you can, or be harsh on yourself for making mistakes.

You need to recite slowly and pay attention to every word and search for the meaning of what you don’t understand. Sit in a quiet and clean place so that no one distracts you.

5. Read a short surah.

When starting with one of the big surahs you will find it hard to continue or feel stressed, so always start with small shuras to encourage yourself. Plus, it will be easier for you to apply the Tajweed rules that you have learned. Additionally, you will be proud of yourself once you finish the surah and will be eager to continue your Quran learning journey.

Remember, it is normal to feel down, sometimes you won’t be able to stick to your strategy, sometimes you will do great and even exceed your daily limit, you may make some mistakes when reading, and other times you will read perfectly, it is all part of the learning process, understanding this is essential. Only then you will be able to continue your Quran-learning journey.

Many people tend to look at what other people accomplished instead of focusing on their own progress. Quran learning takes time and sometimes you will feel down, but comparing yourself to others will only break you and disappoint you. instead of looking at the people around you focus on your own progress, and see how much you have accomplished since you started.
